Thanks for the To The Point video - with NO stupid music. I always tension my blades starting out but, never after 10 seconds and almost never after I start sawing. My bad (stupid). This made such a big difference in my cuts. Thanks again!!!

this is a old video and perhaps scroll saws have changed the way the blade is clamped. The clamps now allow the blade to pivot slightly due to the end having a movable tip.

In terms of blades cutting to the right, if you buy Olson Precisin ground blades, they remove the burr on the right side of the blade to keep it cutting straight.

What blade was used in this demonstration? I am looking to cut 3/4" pen blanks on a 90 degree zig zag all the way down without removing it at any point, so I need clean and perfect 90 degrees in order for this to work. I haven't the foggiest idea what blade to select for this very purpose. Cheers!

If you could put a musical note or sound to how much tension is optimal for most blades what sound would you say it might be? In my experience over the last 10 yrs that average tone sound is equivalent to about notes of "A," "B," or "C" depending on the thinness of the blade - thicker blades more towards the note of "A," whereas the skinnier they are, more towards the higher note of "C." Thoughts?

We have used the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

5:05 so, technically speaking it's never going 2 b a perfectly "even" (or "flat" or whatever term is) cut surface then, right? 15:48 the distance from your finger 2 the blade kinda scares me...

  • @nskmda

good vids. 3:37 +10000B 4 using *PENCIL* 2 point @ the blade. If u added a short note 4 everybody 2 always - *ALWAYS* keep their fingers off of the blade that would b even more clear. :) also, + another 10B 4 *NOT* using any annoying bg muzak... 4:01 exactly same thing as "it's the photographer who takes a picture, not the camera". it's not the saw which's cutting your wood, it's the woodworker.

A question for you, and I'll be grateful to hear from you. I use an excalibur 21. It seems that the blade tension changes with the position of upper arm. For example, when I stop cutting, loosen the blade, and put it in another hole to cut, if the upper arm is high, the tension will be less. and if the upper arm is low, the tension will be more when I turn the knob. Can you help me to make it consistent?
